How do I get to number 1 on the search engines?

The Holy Grail!!

As web designers and Internet marketing experts we get asked this question regularly. The answer is actually quite a simple one. There is no easy way to get to the top of the search engines.

BeVivid have dealt with many so called 'search engine promotion companies' in the past that promise 'the Holy Grail', in a word they have all failed miserably in achieving the magical number spot. Many fail to make even a dent on the least competitive markets.

There are a few key things to ask yourself when looking at promoting your website:

  • Are my keywords I want to be top with realistic? e/g the keyword 'cars' is going to nigh on impossible to get to the top of as your site will be competing with some of the largest and most established websites on the Internet.
  • Can I pick keywords that are specific to my marketplace and realistic? e/g 'used cars birmingham' is a far more realistic and achievable target.
  • If I get to number one on the search engines, will I profit from being there?
  • Is my website programmed in a search engine friendly manner.
  • Do I have the budget to attack my online marketing strategy? Effective search engine optimisation is an ongoing process and there are no shortcuts. If it was easy we would all be doing it...
  • Do i have the resources to ensure my website is kept up-to-date and fresh on the search engines? Websites with fresh content tend to have a far greater impact on the search engines.
Sound a little daunting? At BeVivid we prefer to be realistic, set achievable targets and meet these targets. If you answer yes to the above questions then you are along the right lines for improving your online marketing strategy.
