To take payments online a direct link with your bank or a third party link with your bank is required. The links required are often reffered to as online payment gateways.When taking payments online all online shops require a merchant id.
A merchant id can be obtained in one of two ways:

- From a payment gateway themselves. Worldpay offer all users the facility to apply for an merchant id through themselves, This can significantly reduce application times.
